Holiday Playscheme/Saturday Respite

The Summer Holiday Play scheme started in 1993 at St. Werburgh's City Farm. Due to its popularity and demand Khaas was able to secure funding for the half terms and easter holidays. The play scheme covers Bristol wide.

Khaas Saturday respite started in 1995 at St Werburgh's Community Centre. The aim of this project was to provide respite for families who have children with disabilities/special needs. The children are supported and encouraged to develop their social, physical, intellectual and emotional skills. The Saturday Respite runs every Saturday throughout the year.

Health Project

carers meet every Monday in a warm, confidential and relaxed manner where they are supported by Khaas staff to talk to them about any sensitive issues that affect them. Khaas is able to signpost carers to other services and carer's networks. The carers recognise that physical activity is essential to relieve them of their onerous and demanding tasks as well as improving their health.

Sewing and Dress Design

This project started in 1987 at City farm with only 1 sewing machine. We now have over 12 machines.

This project is a very popular activity. We have two designated tutors who are able to provide help and support in every aspect of pattern cutting and dress design.

Most importantly prociding opportunitues for parents/carers who are isolated and disadvantaged to meet together to access training skills in an informal, cultural friendly environment.

Young Carer's

This project was established in 1999 and set up for girls who are siblings of disabled/special needs children. Khaas aims to bring together these young people in an open and relaxed environment to relieve them of their routine caring duties in a safe, fin and informal setting.

The young girls meet every Saturday morning for mutual support and friendship. The young girls participate in all aspects of the project from planning to delivering activities. This helps boost, their self esteem, confidence and thus encourage them to become responsible young women.
